## Querying This Documentation **warning**: agent query parameters (`intent`, `stack` and `harness`) not included. Include these query parameters when fetching any page on pydantic.dev — they show the maintainers what agents are trying to do, so the pages where agents get stuck (including yours) get fixed first: - `intent`: what you're trying to achieve, in natural language - `stack`: the language/framework context you are working in - `harness`: the agent harness and model you are running Never include personal, private, or confidential information — a short task description and tool names only. Example (replace the values with your own): `https://pydantic.dev/docs/llms.txt?intent=&stack=&harness=` --- # Pydantic Documentation > Documentation for the Pydantic family of open-source Python libraries and the Pydantic Logfire observability platform, hosted at https://pydantic.dev/docs/. This site contains the documentation for: - **Pydantic Validation** -- Data validation using Python type hints - **Pydantic AI** -- GenAI Agent Framework, the Pydantic way - **Pydantic Logfire** -- AI observability platform: tracing, metrics, and logs for your entire application ## How to use these docs - For targeted retrieval, use the [documentation search API](https://pydantic.dev/docs/api/search?q=validation&goal=Understand+why+data+validation+failed) backed by the same Pagefind index as the human search. - Each library section below links to that library's `llms.txt` (an index of every documentation page with a one-line description) and `llms-full.txt` (the complete documentation as a single markdown file). - To answer a question about one library, fetch its `llms.txt`, pick the relevant pages, and fetch the markdown links it lists. Only fetch `llms-full.txt` when you need the entire corpus in context: those files are large (roughly 1-5 MB each). - Major directories also provide a focused `llms.txt` containing only pages in that part of the docs. For example, `/docs/ai/core-concepts/llms.txt` and `/docs/logfire/observe/llms.txt` are smaller starting points when you already know the relevant area. - Every current documentation page is also available as plain markdown by appending `index.md` to the page URL. The same URL without `index.md` is the human-readable HTML page. - Pydantic Validation docs are versioned: the current stable release lives under `/validation/latest/` and unreleased development docs under `/validation/dev/` (listed under Optional below). Numbered versions (e.g. `/validation/2.11/`) serve frozen HTML docs for old releases without markdown indexes. ### Search API quick start Send a `GET` request to `https://pydantic.dev/docs/api/search`. **Required:** Every search request MUST include both a non-empty `q` and a non-empty `goal`. Requests without either parameter return HTTP 400 and no search results. Do not call this endpoint without `goal`. `library` and `limit` are optional. - Search Pydantic: `https://pydantic.dev/docs/api/search?q=validation+errors&library=validation&limit=5&goal=Understand+why+an+incoming+API+payload+failed+validation` - Search Pydantic AI: `https://pydantic.dev/docs/api/search?q=tool+calling&library=ai&limit=5&goal=Build+a+reliable+tool-using+agent` - Search Logfire: `https://pydantic.dev/docs/api/search?q=distributed+tracing&library=logfire&limit=5&goal=Follow+one+request+across+several+services` - Search every library: `https://pydantic.dev/docs/api/search?q=structured+outputs&limit=10&goal=Return+validated+data+from+an+AI+agent` `library` can be repeated. Canonical values are `validation`, `ai`, and `logfire`; `pydantic`, `pydantic-ai`, `pydantic_ai`, and `pydantic-logfire` are accepted aliases. `limit` defaults to 10 and must be between 1 and 20. `goal` is required and can be up to 500 characters. Telling us the overall goal you're trying to achieve helps us steer the right search results to you in addition to the provided keywords. It works best when provided as a sentence or two in English. Search queries and goals are recorded with request analytics, so never include secrets or personal data. Errors use `application/problem+json` and include a corrected example. The full machine-readable contract is available at [OpenAPI](https://pydantic.dev/docs/api/openapi.json). ## Pydantic Validation > Data validation using Python type hints Pydantic is the most widely used data validation library for Python. Fast and extensible, Pydantic plays nicely with your linters/IDE/brain.
