Design Engineer at Pydantic
As a Design Engineer, you'll join an energetic team of folks building out the SaaS platform, Pydantic Logfire. You'll work closely with our Lead Design Engineer and be responsible for delivering beautiful, functional design work across multiple disciplines - from marketing materials and conference presence to product UI and frontend development.
This role requires a genuine interest in understanding and learning the technical engines driving our systems in order to design for them effectively. While there's plenty of well-trodden SaaS interactions to refine and build out, this is also an exciting opportunity to design for emerging interaction patterns with AI and agentive systems. This role offers significant autonomy to shape both our visual identity and the product's user experience / developer experience as we expand from our current company size of 18 engineers to support our ambitious growth plans.
What you will do
Design & Visual Work:
- Design and iterate on marketing website, campaigns, and promotional materials
- Designs for swag (stickers, tshirts) and conference booths (large format)
- Develop and maintain our visual identity across all touchpoints
Product UI & Frontend Development:
- Work closely with our product team to define and refine interaction patterns
- Design and build beautiful, usable, and scalable UI components
- Design complete views and user flows, composing components consistently across the application
- Ensure a high-quality, cohesive user experience across all areas of the application
- Take ownership of specific feature sets and product domains
- Contribute to our component library, ensuring consistency and accessibility
- Participate in design and code reviews
- Contribute to design decisions and push design quality forward
Who You Are
We expect a candidate for this position to have experience in some of the following:
- Multi-disciplinary design: Visual design, branding, marketing materials, and proficiency with design tools (Figma, Affinity, Sketch, etc.)
- UX/UI design: User research, wireframing, prototyping, and creating intuitive user interfaces
- Frontend development: React, TypeScript, and modern build tools
- Design systems: Building and maintaining cohesive design languages and component libraries
- UI consistency: Preserving design coherence as applications scale
- Design systems thinking: Balancing technical requirements, accessibility, and aesthetic considerations
- Multi-scale thinking: Shifting between systems-level design and pixel-perfect implementation
We realize this covers a lot of different disciplines - the right candidate will be strong in some of these points but not necessarily all of them. Interest or experience relevant to our domain is highly desirable, and you should be excited about working across different projects.
Nice to have but not required:
- Startup or small team experience
- Brand identity development
- Accessibility: Implementing WCAG guidelines, keyboard navigation, ARIA roles, and inclusive design practices
- UI animation and micro-interactions
- A history of contributing to and working with Open Source Software
- Interest in developer tools / python / AI
Non-technical Requirements

- Required: Fluent in English

About Us
Pydantic is the data validation library that powers modern Python development - 300 million downloads per month, used by virtually every tech company you've heard of. Why? Because we obsess over developer experience and write code we'd actually want to use ourselves.
We're applying that same engineering mindset to Logfire, our observability platform built for today's development reality: AI workloads, multi-language environments, and cloud infrastructure that's designed to be straightforward to set up and maintain.
We build with technologies developers actually want to work with:
- OpenTelemetry for standardized instrumentation
- SQL for intuitive querying (no proprietary query language to learn)
- Rust, Python, and TypeScript for performance and productivity
- Postgres, DataFusion, and object storage for scalable backends
Unlike other companies that pay lip service to open source, we commit over 20% of our engineering team to maintaining and expanding our open source ecosystem. This includes the core Pydantic library and PydanticAI - our rapidly growing framework that's becoming the standard for AI application development. We're signatories of the open source pledge and build on open standards because we believe in interoperability, not lock-in. Use our OpenTelemetry-based SDK with any compatible backend - we're confident you'll choose us on merit.
We're backed by Sequoia Capital and run a fully remote team across multiple time zones (with regular in-person offsites - next one's this September in Las Vegas).
Join our team of exceptional engineers who value substance over hype, practical approaches over perfectionism, and meaningful progress over busyness. We've built a culture that balances technical ambition with sustainable practices—minimal meetings and respect for your expertise and time. We're creating tools that genuinely improve developers' lives, and we're looking for thoughtful contributors who share our commitment to quality and our passion for elegant solutions.
